Teaching efforts go upside-down!

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

The amazing progress with my lady pilot student Claire Alley continues. The total number of flying sessions we have managed over the last 3 months is quite low and I have to keep reminding Claire of how well she has done, considering the low number of sessions. Learning in a club environment, where regular days are easier to achieve, would certainly be easier.

Claire has not struggled for confidence, but she caught me by surprise by deciding to experiment with inverted flying…without warning me or me talking through the process!

So far we had not had much chance to do take-off or landing practice because of the conditions. Saturday changed that with near perfect light winds and after the normal period of circuit practice on Claire’s Trojan T-28, we started with take-offs, both from a convenient road and from the grass common land. We then worked at landings, for the first time Claire didn’t find it easy or natural and had to work especially hard to gain the confidence required to smoothly control the Trojan down for several smooth touchdowns. I’m very proud of Claire’s progress, it really is great to see the enjoyment and satisfaction from achieving a complete flight, take-off through flight and landing. I had plenty of time to take photos.
